BingoPlus Foundation and DSWD Partner to Empower PWDs with Digital Skills

In a major initiative to promote inclusivity and digital empowerment, the BingoPlus Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), has unveiled the PLUS Center for Technology and Livelihood at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II in Brgy. Labangon, Cebu City. This groundbreaking project is part of the Foundation’s mission to uplift communities and create opportunities for marginalized sectors, including persons with disabilities (PWDs), by providing them with essential digital and vocational skills.

The PLUS Center, established under the Foundation’s FutureSmart Program, received ₱1.5 million worth of state-of-the-art equipment from the BingoPlus Foundation. The donation includes 20 desktop computers for training rooms and a commercial-grade large-format tarpaulin printer and heat press machine for the Commercial Arts room. These resources are designed to equip AVRC II trainees with the digital tools necessary to thrive in the modern economy, particularly in the fields of graphic design, printing, and IT skills development.

Celeste Jovenir, Vice President for Investor Relations at DigiPlus and COO of the BingoPlus Foundation, highlighted the transformative nature of the partnership, stating, “This isn’t just about equipment; it’s about creating opportunities that can truly change lives. Our shared vision with the DSWD is to build a more inclusive society where everyone, regardless of ability, can succeed in the digital age.”

Empowering PWDs for the Digital Economy

The newly donated equipment is tailored to meet the specific needs of AVRC II, enhancing its ability to provide high-quality vocational training in digital literacy and creative arts. The addition of advanced printers and heat press machines offers Commercial Arts students the chance to acquire in-demand skills for potential careers in creative industries. Additionally, the desktop computers are equipped with audio software and speech-to-text technology, making them accessible for PWD clients who wish to master both basic and advanced IT skills. Graduates of these courses can use the facilities to pursue job opportunities, engage in remote work, or even launch small businesses.

Dr. Jera D. Armendarez of AVRC II expressed her deep gratitude, saying, “This equipment will be invaluable to our trainees as they explore careers in creative industries or start their own businesses. It’s a powerful example of how public-private partnerships can drive meaningful, lasting change.”

A Shared Commitment to Social Impact

The BingoPlus Foundation serves as the social development arm of DigiPlus Interactive Corp., focusing on creating long-term social impact through strategic partnerships. The FutureSmart E-Plus Center Program aligns with DSWD’s “Adopt-A-Center” project, enhancing skills development programs for PWDs and helping them achieve greater independence.

DSWD 7 Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting, “With the addition of this equipment, we are not just improving our services; we are opening new doors for our clients to succeed in the rapidly evolving digital world.”

Expanding Horizons for PWDs

The PLUS Center for Technology and Livelihood is just one of many initiatives spearheaded by the BingoPlus Foundation. From scholarships to disaster relief efforts, the Foundation remains dedicated to providing comprehensive support to vulnerable communities. Recently, the Foundation allocated ₱10 million to assist families affected by Super Typhoon Carina and continues to invest in projects focused on digital literacy and vocational training.

“Our mission is to eliminate barriers and create new pathways to success for PWDs,” Jovenir added. “These tools are more than just machines; they are gateways to independence, creativity, and a brighter future.”
