Just in time for the upcoming holidays, The no. 1 smartphone brand in the country, realme Philippines has launched the latest mid-range smartphone: the realme 8i.
Officially launched in the Philippines on November 16, the realme 8i brings an ultra-smooth smartphone experience to the mid-range segment as it boasts a 120Hz Ultra Smooth Display and the powerful Helio G96 Processor. In addition, the realme 8i features a 5000mAh massive battery with 18W Quick Charge, 5GB virtual RAM, and a 50MP AI Triple Camera, among many other features to level up our overall experience.
I’ve been using the phone unit a few days before it was launched and I was overjoyed with the Space Black color. Honestly speaking it was my first black phone after a few years of having one. In this article, I’ll be sharing with you some of my experiences using the realme 8i, showing you some of the photos I took and my thoughts about the unit.

Plain but not Boring Design
The realme 8i is available here in the Philippines in two colors: Space Black and Stellar Purple. What I got was the space black and I can say that it may look a bit simple but it isn’t that boring. I honestly love its glaring effect, with curved corners that shine when reflected by light. It is a very straightforward, smooth appearance that makes the black look just as eye-catching when I’m holding it. It is light and thin, coming in at just 8.5 mm and 194 g.
Performance
The device got a really powerful processor, MediaTek Helio G96, that has two large A75 cores and 6 small A55 cores with frequency reaching up to 2.05GHz. Compared to realme 7i, the performance of 8i has improved 65%.
Along with this, realme launched the technology – Virtual RAM, coming from computers to smartphones. Virtual RAM actually uses the phone’s internal storage as makeshift RAM and increases the total amount of RAM on the smartphone. This can actually make your phone maintain its performance even opening multiple applications. For realme 8i,realme launches 5GB Virtual RAM on 6GB+128GB version and this can improve the phone’s overall smoothness (*realme 8i 4GB+64GB does not support Virtual RAM).
The realme 8i features an impressive 120Hz refresh rate, among the first at its price to do so. You can see that 120Hz screens generally show up in a high price range. realme is continuing to take leaps with this technology, letting more people enjoy a smoother experience.
It was said that this smartphone was specifically created to cater to the needs of gamers. Giving them more affordable options but not compromising its capabilities. True to what was told, each time you will use the smartphone to play a game, by simply sliding left at the upper right side, a small menu featuring the smartphone’s CPU, GPU and network connection can be monitored.
Playing massive games in this unit was smoother compared to realme 7i. It boasts a massive 6.6-inch LCD display as well, giving me that superior visual experience, as well as a 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut and a 180Hz touch sampling rate.
Super Power Saving Mode + 5000mAh High-capacity battery
And because gaming is on top priority, battery life would be the next best thing to be improved with this unit. At its sleek frame, realme 8i didn’t fret to feature a mega 5000mAh battery with which lets me enjoy non-stop usage, whenever you want.
According to a test done by realme Lab, the realme 8i could last for 28 days in standby mode. Totally continuous 47 hours on call, 40 hours on music, 11 hours on YouTube, or 8 hours for MLBB. The realme 8i is also equipped with an 18W fast charge. With this, it takes only 36 mins to charge to 50%.
For emergency purposes or activities wherein longer battery life would be needed, you can enable Super Power Saving Mode, which will lower the screen brightness, shorten auto screen-off time to 15s, and disable background sync to greatly lengthen battery life.
In this mode, you will be allowed to select 6 mostly used apps to keep active to achieve an extremely long battery life. At the same time, the phone will turn on a more aggressive power-saving strategy.
The Super Power Saving mode is actually an awesome feature of the realme 8i I can personally benefit from. Most of the time, I don’t really use any of the apps in the day and basically use 5-8 apps only. With the super power-saving mode, I can use only 5% battery to use social messaging apps for nearly 1.3 hours, and also get 2 hours+ calling time especially for emergencies.
Decent Photos at 50MP
Creators like me will definitely get a huge level up with the realme 8i’s 50MP AI Triple Camera setup. Its 50MP main camera with f/1.8 large aperture takes in enough light to make photos clearer and brighter. It also comes with a black and white lens for more artistic photos, and an ultra-macro lens with a 4-cm shooting distance to shoot up close in fine detail. Though lacking with a wide-angle shot, it was compensated with a 16MP front cam that can take crisp and clear selfies, enhanced with an AI beauty function, HDR mode, portrait mode, as well as a Panoselfie mode for wider selfies.
Here are some of the photos shot using the new realme 8i.
All in all, I can say that this unit got a major improvement from its predecessor, the realme 7i. I personally love the simple design and the performance of the unit. I also honestly enjoyed taking selfies especially portraits, which resulted in a cleaner subject to background separation. Gamers will also enjoy the fast refresh rate. At its price range, it gives the masses access to own a quality phone at a more affordable price.
