Is the new ASUS ZENBOOK DUO UX 482, Better? (First Impression and Unboxing)

This is the upgrade we all been waiting for. The new ASUS Zenbook Duo UX 482 is finally here in the Philippines. It is definitely a game-changer for all multi-tasker like me.

It hasn’t been a long time since I first introduced to all of you the first version of the Asus Zenbook Duo. I was drooling over to own this unit after seeing it first in Taipei, Taiwan

After more than a year of collecting comments from users, worldwide, ASUS finally revealed the second version – the ASUS Zenbook Duo UX 482, which is a better version with more advanced technology and efficient usage.

Each box will contain the following;

  • ASUS Zenbook Duo UX 482 14” laptop
  • Thunderbolt power cable
  • Manual & warranty card
  • Stylus pen
  • Leather sleeve
  • Sleeve Stand

The laptop version is only available in celestial blue color and has a nice metal finish and plastic interior build. With dual-screen, ASUS did a great job of making it sleek and slender and very handy for people who are always on the go.

On the sides, you’ll get 2 Thunderbolt 4 USB-C, USB-A (3.2 Gen 1), HDMI 1.4, 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD card slot.  I hope they’ve made it fit for an SD card instead to simplify photo transfers especially if you’re a photographer.

And off-course with this compact laptop, there are surely some parts that would carry the burden, specifically the keyboard. I can honestly say that the keyboard tightly packed with very minimal spacing and personally it’s a bit hard for me to type faster. I guess time is really needed for you to adjust to its size.

With our current situation of doing more virtual meetings and such, it is important to have a decent camera. The ASUS Zenbook Duo 14 UX 482 offers a standard camera and is decently clear especially with available lighting. There are times that I’m a bit washout especially during daylight but it focuses and eventually adjusts. During meetings, you’ll also probably be seen a bit grainy if people are watching you on full screen.

Microphones would be the next best important thing you needed in a virtual meeting. Good thing, ASUS Zenbook Duo 14 UX 482 got a decent microphone even without using an external mic or a headset. When you speak your voice can be heard clearly and it does have this technology that focuses on your voice solely and drown everything around you.

The full HD main display got a 93% screen-to-body ratio and is bright and sharp. Making it more enjoyable to watch videos on YouTube or Netflix. It also got this anti-glare capability for improved readability, especially when using the unit outdoors.

At the corner, you’ll see two well-designed speakers, a product by audio specialists Harman Kardon giving us an astonishing sound you’ll enjoy while listening to music or watching movies.

And just like the previous ASUS models, a touchpad can be located at the side of the laptop, though a bit small for my hand, using a mouse for me would be better. But if you like a bigger touchpad, you can always rely on the huge secondary screen, the Screen Pad plus, which is the highlight of this laptop.

Both Primary and Secondary screens are touch screens, hence if you are fond of using pads and pens you’ll definitely enjoy this one.

The ScreenPad plus makes multitasking so fluid. Just simply drag and drop and it will automatically resize or refit itself to the screen. Very useful especially if you are working on the primary screen while doing some side hustles on the second one.

There are also optimized apps and software like Adobe Products that automatically detect the secondary screen and adjust the software environment.

If you are using multiple applications and having a hard time reading it on the secondary screen, you can simply grab and use the swap function or press the shortcut button on the side, at the top of the touchpad.

Another good thing that I super love about the new feature is called the Task Group and is accessible at the new control center. If you got applications you always open for work or for school, you can simply group them and save them at the task group. You can set up and open up to 7 different applications at the same time using this feature and even do color coding for easier recognition.

If you want a certain application to maximize both screens, simply drag and expand that window by using View Max and it will automatically be stretch on both. And I love how seamless the visuals are, thanks to the adjustments made to make this brand-new tilting design fit for seamless workflows

What I got is an Intel Core i7, with 2 Gb  VRAM, 16GB RAM memory, and 1 TB SSD. The specs are really suited for layout and basic to light video editing. Upload and download speed is no problem thanks to its Wi-Fi 6, enhanced with ASUS WiFi master premium technology, so you can easily create and share on the go

The upgrade to the 11th Gen Intel Processor also has made the unit very power efficient, with improved battery life. It also produces less heat output while providing the performance we needed. Battery life can last up to 17 hours on a single charge. But of course, it will always depend on how you use it.

The new laptop of tomorrow is definitely something to look forward to, but the question now is, will this fit you?

Here’s a quick summary of the things I do and don’t love about the new ASUS ZenBook Duo 14.

  • The slim and light factor making this unit perfect for travelers and people on the go.
  • Great Performance
  • Very good battery life
  • ScreenPad plus is better and is such a game-changer.
  • Both screens are touch screens.

What I just don’t really feel are the following;

  • The keyboard size and placement.  If you are moving from a regular laptop, the keyboard layout would be a bit of a hassle.
  • The small touchpad on the side
  • I feel that the secondary screen isn’t really for everyone.

I guess if you are a multitasker, who loves to do two or more things at the same time, or probably a doodle artist, photographer, or graphic artist, or someone who’s doing YouTube video and will require basic to light editing. Having the ASUS ZenBook DUO 14 UX 482 is something that will definitely help make you create a job well done.
