How witty can Filipinos be? From Starbuko (sounds like Starbucks) that sells buko juice; Harry Cutter, a barbershop that is rooted from Harry Potter; Libing Things (living things ), which ironically named for a funeral parlor; Mami Pakyaw (from Manny Pacquiao) which sells mami noodles, and many more. Filipinos do really know how to crack it up, do some word play and creating a witty brand name. That is just crazily amazing!
One brand I recently discover do know how to be witty when it comes to product naming. But what is good about this product is aside from inducing ‘Pinoy Humor‘, it also promotes responsible goodness while helping the indigenous and/or local producers in the country. The brand is called LOCALLY.
Locally is a homegrown beverage brand that’s the first of its kind, serving unique, all-Pinoy flavors you’ve never had in juice before. And true to what they’ve said, they created not just the usual but a Filipino inspired products that would make you feel like you’ve done a trip around the Philippine regions.
Locally currently have ten (10) indigenous flavours: Mangosteen (Mangosteenie Miney Mo), Sineguelas (Save The Best for Sineguelast), Dalandan (You’ve Dalandan It Again), Tamarind (Tamarind My Bell), Guyabano (Guyabano-body But You), Calamansi (Calamansi’z The Day), Pomelo (Pomelong and Lasting Love), and Buco (Merci Buco 100% Coconut Water, Lychee, Buko Pandan).
“There has been a resurgent advocacy promoting homegrown brands and products. The country has seen an increase in fairs selling local produce, restaurants featuring their own take on local dishes, local art and films being recognized, etc. Loving local is definitely in right now, and it’s a good thing because it enables us to support our own communities and promote Filipino pride, which is exactly what Locally is all about,” says Gretchen King, Group Product Manager – Locally
I was able to learn about this product a few months ago when I was invited by Nutriasia to join their ‘Joy Ride‘ at Rizal Park. It was when they introduce a truck that would park in different spots and serve different Nutri-Asia products. Come a few days ago, Locally was again introduce to the media in an event held at Early Night in BGC.
It was a fun afternoon, where we enjoy a feast of everything local, from fishballs, to putobumbong, bibingka, lechon, pancit and more. Of course, we were able to taste as well all the variants of Locally products.
Locally believes in responsible goodness: great-tasting and indigenous flavors that’s not just good for you, but good for the community too.
“Each of our flavours is created from natural, homegrown fruits sourced from different parts of the country — there’s the tamarind from Central and Southern Luzon, Mangosteen from Davao, and Calamansi from Isabela, among others. We aim to raise awareness and appreciation of our local produce, and in turn, support Filipino farmers and the farming community,” she added
“We wanted Locally to reflect something uniquely Pinoy so we used the names of the fruits, and injected a punny twist to them.”
My personal favorite was the Sineguelas (Save The Best for Sineguelast), which tasted like dalandan but with a sweet kick at the end. Try it and tell me which one is your favorite? #Locallyph #LivinLovinLocally
