There are so many things I’ve heard about teeth whitening, some says doing so will incur damage to you teeth while others said it will make your teeth brittle. I never tried it not until a few days ago when I visited the newly open Smile Bar in Bonifacio High Street.
I’ve been wanting to try it but wasn’t really sure if it is for me. Luckily, I have found the answer just when I needed it the most.

Following the successful launches in Hong Kong and Bangkok, Smile Bar Manila offers safe and effective teeth whitening services to consumers in the Philippines. I was able to visit the store at the opening day and tried the services! I was super surprise at the result! In just 40 minutes I was able to achieve 6 shades lower from my teeth’s previous color.

The whole process begins with an assessment. A designated technician will be assigned individually for a more special care. After giving an overview of what will happen and after choosing the services I would be getting. I signed a form, stating that I am healthy and I do not have allergy or such (the usual waiver).

I was then asked to proceed at the lavatory to gargle and brush my teeth. Afterwards, I was asked to go to the other room where they checked my teeth color. The Bleaching Shade guide starts at S2 (as the whitest) to S40 (as the darkest). Mine was initially S22. As said by the technician, our standard white teeth color should be the same color of your Sclera (or the white portion of the eye).
We then went back to the red chair to start the treatment. She then explained to me all the things she would be using including the procedure on how it will be done. I was also asked to choose my entertainment, which includes an iPad or headphones, that you can use while you wait for (initially) 20 minutes.
After setting up everything, and putting on the LED plasma light, I then waited for 20 minutes. I was a bit frisky sitting at the chair that I didn’t notice that the plasma was already out of place. Lol! I was told not to worry about it at all.
From S22, it went down to S18! I wasn’t satisfied yet so I decided to do another round. Which in turn, gave me a final S16. Wonderful! In just 40 minutes, I was able to go 6 shades whiter!
The technician then applied the Nano Seal Total+ which reinforces the enamel and seals the whiteness on the teeth. This is an add-on to any treatment and the good thing about this one is that, once you avail it, you can easily go back to your lifestyle without worrying about staining or discoloration. Meaning you can go drinking coffee or any other colored foods and drinks, which are actually not advisable to do in other clinics.

Things you need to know about Teeth Whitening
Is teeth whitening safe? this could be the very first question you would be asking and for me there is always a danger in everything. What you need to do is make sure that your letting a certified person or company do the process. As Smile Bar explained it to me, doing teeth whitening is completely safe for teeth and gums. Also teeth whitening doesn’t make your teeth brittle or thin, but instead it just eliminate the dirt or stain situated in the lining of your teeth.
Is the LED Plasma light technology safe & effective?
Smile Bar explains that the LED Plasma light technology used in the teeth treatment is very safe and effective. It produces better and faster results compared to other teeth whitening methods. They assures that all necessary tests have been conducted already to ensure its safety for customers.
How many shades lighter can the teeth get?
Each person has a unique anatomy and everyone’s teeth can respond differently tot he whitening treatment. The result also depends on the type and degree of discoloration. Initially I got 4 shades whiter, while my other friends got 6 or more. As said by Smile Bar, the average for customers is 5 shades whiter after one treatment. So I guess, achieving more is more than awesome!
Is Teeth Whitening for you?
If you have healthy teeth and gums, I actually do not see any reason why you wouldn’t want whiter teeth! Pregnant women (or breastfeeding mothers) and children under the age of 16 is not recommended to go under process. Also people who got braces are not eligible.
How long do teeth whitening results last?
It really defends on your lifestyle and diet. If you are very cautious, you can expect to maintain whiter teeth for up to 6 months after the treatment at the Smile Bar, provided that you practice good dental hygiene.
How long do I have to wait before drinking, eating or smoking? (Specially if you didn’t avail the Nano Seal Total+)
They strongly recommend to drink water only for the first 6 hours after the treatment. And as part of the aftercare, they are recommending for you to do on the next 72 hours after treatment:
- Avoid strongly colored drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine, soda
- Avoid food that cause stains such as chocolate, and those with food coloring
- Keep away from acidic food such as tomatoes, vinegar, soy, citrus, and chili sauce as these cause tooth hypersensitivity
- Do not smoke
- Do a fluoride rinse twice a day to rebuild enamel and fill any microscopic cavities.
