It was a year ago when Chef Jam Melchor unexpectedly message me informing that he was about to create a team that would pioneer a movement. We just met a few weeks back then and he already wanted me to be part of his plan. I was clueless about everything he says and felt that it would just be a small activity or something to that effect. But because of his credentials, (even everything seems gray) I gave him my trust and said ‘yes’.

Comes a year after, Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement or PCHM, the movement that was once an idea celebrated its first anniversary last September 17, 2016 at Kabisera, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig City.
Coined as SALUSALO: Pagtitipon and Pasasalamat, the dinner celebration marks the solidarity and support to the petition and call to action for the celebration of “Buwan ng Kulinaryang Filipino.” Filipino food advocates, Core members, VIP guests, bloggers and media friends attended the said event.
It was a night of get-together reminiscing how a group composed of very different individuals combine and form a unified organisation.

The celebration was also coupled with overflowing Filipino-Buffet dishes served and prepared by Kabisera. Amongst the food I’ve tasted, the Pork and beef Sisig, Kilawin, the Halo-Halo and most specially the tusok-tusok station (fishballs!) are the ones I enjoyed the most.
Undersecretary Berna Romulo Puyat of the Department of Agriculture also graced the event and commended the groups effort to uplift not just the Filipino Culinary scene but as well as the extended help to the food entrepreneurs and farmers.

PakainPH was also launch at the event. An online website that will cater to Filipino indigenous products selling Cordillera Herloom Rice, Hand Harvested Sea Salt from Pangasinan, Macadamia Nuts from Cotabato, Coco Sugar from Misamis Oriental, Pure Wild Honey from Abra and many more. PagkainPH would be one of the organizations tool in supporting local product as well as providing a monetary funding to continually support the movement.
Chef Jam Melchor, the convenor of Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement also brought the news of the approved petition for the celebration of “Buwan ng Kulinaryang Filipino” which will be held every April starting next year, 2017.
The Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement (PCHM), a non-profit organisation worked with various activities to prove that our food is more than just an interesting trend and that FILIPINO CUISINE as well as Philippine gastronomy deserves to be continuously recognized, cultivated and preserved for future generations.
