BLK 513 opens its doors to customers at the north with a branch at SM North EDSA highlighting BLK 513 Activated Charcoal Frozen Yogurt. Plus things you should know about Activated Charcoal.
Here is a certified #NognogIntheCity, and it comes in a form of Yogurt! BLK 513 welcomes all the customers in Quezon City as it opens a new branch at SM North EDSA. And because this fad is definitely starting, that is why I did not missed the opportunity to visit the place on its opening.
It was a good thing that my friends; Seph & Trice (influencers at its finest!), introduces me to BLK 513 a few days ago by letting me taste their favorite “Wonka River”. It’s a combination of Cookie crunch (?), mango, strawberry, & Nutella fudge. After which I became a fan.
Last September 10, 2016, BLK 513 opens its first branch in Quezon City located at the second floor of SM NORTH EDSA, It was amazing that I attended this event because aside from seeing my blogger friends, BLK 513 is offering unlimited yogurt to all attendees for free!!!
Inside BLK 513 store
The store looks very industrial with major black shades mixed with wood, greens and steels. The store got a very simple setup yet attractive enough to compliment the brightly colored JCO besides it. Inside the store, you’ll find a long table with chairs and a square table at the far end where customers can stay and hangout while enjoying a cup or two. Though it is expected for customers to go in and out, I am predicting that they would be needing more space for diners very soon.
Dark Skim or White (Super Skim)
BLK 513 is a yogurt house offering various customisations at your fingertips with BLK 513’s Dark Skim Activated Charcoal Yogurt set to be as their flagship product.
With different add-on and syrups, it will definitely take time to saturate all the combinations.
If you like the soury taste of yogurt, choosing the Dark Skim would be perfect. Dark Skim Cup costs Php 185 that includes a choice of crunch, two fruits and sauce. Dark Skim Cone costs Php 170 with a choice of two toppings.
Super Skim on the other hand taste sweet like sundae. Super Skim Cup costs Php 160 with a choice of 1 or 2 crunch.
You can upgrade your cup by adding Php 25 for every add-on.
BLK 513 also offer dessert beverages like Raw Cacao Skim for Php 145, topped with Valrhona Nibs as well as the Matcha Skim for Php 135, drizzled with their signature Milk Jam.
I personally like the dark skim yogurt with a mix of any sweet tasting fruits. Talking about calories? A cup can take around 350 calories and up.
Things you should know about Activated Charcoal
You might be wondering “What the hell is an Activated Charcoal”. Well I personally said that too, and thought that its the usual charcoal or “uling” which is mostly made from peat, coal, wood, coconut shell, or petroleum ( I was semi-correct).
Not until it was cleared to us by Abi Fernandez, Managing Partner of BLK 513, (and a few research) that an activated charcoal that makes their Yogurt go dark is actually similar to the common charcoal but is made especially for use as a medicine.
Owners Kim and Abi personally make the activated charcoal at their home through heating common charcoal in the presence of a gas that causes the charcoal to develop lots of internal spaces or “pores”.
Okay, It’s getting a bit technical already so maybe lets just go straight to the point, Where does an Activated Charcoal used?
It is used to treat poisoning, reduce intestinal gas, lower cholesterol level, and could treat bile flow problems.
Combined it to a (healthy) Yogurt + Fruits gives us a very healthy snack!
And because the event was overflowing with Yogurts, I was able to do two rounds (Black Skim & Super Skim) plus a bottle of Cacao!
When I got home a few hours after, I felt the urge to head straight to the bathroom. Success!!!
