Have you ever had a chance to dine in a restaurant located in the middle of nowhere ? How about dining while overlooking the sea, where the sand touches your feet while you walk kilometers of shoreline. This place we’re referring to serves different cuisine and does it with great music from local musicians and singers performing right next to your table. Well I just did that a few weeks ago, cool right?!
Read on to know the details.
I visited Club Paradise in Coron, Palawan. Now out there is a place called Ocean Restaurant. It’s the only restaurant that you can find in Dimakya island. You might say, “Oh! I don’t have any choices!”, but don’t you worry, Ocean Restaurant is hands down the best when it comes to dishes. They’ve got a multitude of food you can try so you don’t have to worry that you might repeat a certain dish even if you stay for months. (except for rice, fruits etc of course!)
The Ambiance at Ocean Restaurant
Basically made with wooden interiors, you can already feel the vibe of a comfy laid back place. A part of the area was under construction when we visited, but the remaining portion of the place is still pleasing to see. They have available seating for two or for families, which are their usual guests. The restaurant has an awesome view of the ocean, and the wind blowing from the outside cools down the whole place. It gets to be very romantic in the evening, add to that the pin lighting, candles and soothing music. I particularly love sitting at the veranda at the near corner of the main entrance, where I could easily go to the buffet table, got a nice view of the greenery, and do people watching as well.
If you want her to feel very special or take someone to dine here so you could go the next level, you can simply request a table near the shore (Called the Moonlight Dinner), and they’ll take care of you complete with a romantic setup that’s perfect for couples or lovers vacationing in the island. (I would definitely do this sometime in the future. 🙂 )
Different Cuisine Every time
According to Chef Christian Marie Aquino, Ocean Restaurant’s Chef de Partie, they make sure to serve different cuisines/dishes each meal. True to her word, on our 2 day stay, we been taken to China, America, Italy, then back to the Philippines. I’m not a fan of Chinese food in general, but there are some I could have at least. Our lunch at Ocean Restaurant was Chinese and they took us to choices like Golden Egg Noodles, Braised Cabbage, Egg Rolls, Gong Bao Mushroom, Steamed Fish in Soy Ginger and Tofu Mushroom Trifeca. The dessert is something I would want to take home, Mung Bean Buchi and Tangyuan.
For dinner, they took us to something more Filipino while the band played “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok ko” and those classics! The food was awesome! We had Caldereta, Chop suey, Isda na may Gata, Sisig and Chicken Inasal. The Sinigang soup is a definite winner! And the sisig was just amazing. Overall, it was something I can say I wouldn’t get tired eating. I did a quick second and third plate during that time, and still enjoyed it!
The next day, we had American Breakfast. It’s the usual sausage, bacon, corned beef, potatoes, eggs, breads and porridge as well.
Lunch time was a little more exciting as we were able to try grilled dishes in Coron, which I’ll tell you on another blog post. We got back to the island a little hungry from the whole day Coron Tour Activity arranged by Calamianes Expeditions (check http://www.corongaleri.com.ph)
Capping the night with Orange Mousse, Cheese Cake Cannoli and Moist Chocolate Cake.
Will I come back if given a chance?
Definitely! Yes! I’m actually even excited to know what else Ocean Restaurant can offer. I felt that the longer we stay, the more delicious the food gets. We may have started a bit slow, but we ended up wanting more in this restaurant. I listed down some good points I wanted to stress why ocean restaurant is something to try while on the island.
- Personalize – Simple things can make a great impact, just like what we had on our visit at Ocean Restaurant. The staff was very courteous, and they remembers the little details that you want on your table. It could be an additional sauce, or on how you want your coffee to be done, or even putting an ice on your water. It’s those little things that make you feel they know you already.
- Flexible – Dining at this restaurant made me feel I’m out of the country (specially because the staff will converse in English). There are a lot of foreigners. On our trip, I’ve met some Chinese, British and Indians. With that, a kitchen should easily adjust to the taste palettes of their clientele. Good thing Ocean Restaurant can do that, the chef/cooks have knowledge in serving international cuisine.
- Added Entertainment – The local band was something to look forward to. Even if they weren’t singing on our table, I had fun watching them (listening to them) while the foreigners requests songs for them to play. They were very entertaining, I heard them singing Tagalog songs, some old English songs, Spanish pieces and even pop hits from Bruno Mars. I wonder if they can also sing Chinese or Indian songs? lol!
Ocean Restaurant opens at 6 AM. You can choose Ala Carte or buffet for full board or half board guests. For more information about Ocean Restaurant visit http://www.
