I am used to eating alone. It’s one of those moments that I usually take time eating and really savor the food that I’ve ordered. You’ll probably would see me eating in an unpopular restaurant or could be discovering a hole-in-a-wall kind of places.
But if I choose to go with big groups, I would definitely pick a place that can accommodate all my friends, should be cozy with amazing dishes to serve. Just like Tien Ma’s Taiwanese cuisine, with spacious area and very homey interiors this restaurant is definitely a go to place for group meetings or gatherings.
Tien Ma’s started by a Chinese couple and launched their first branch in Retiro, Quezon City last January 11, 2015. TIEN is the family name of the wife and MA also refers to her as the mother, thus TIEN MA means Mother Tien or Mama Tien in other words. Tien Ma’s is proud of serving authentic Chinese cuisine with recipes that are actually the couple’s family secrets passed on for generations.
On my visit, I got the privilege to try some of the best foods they could offer.
Xiao Long Bao is the best-seller and believed to be the number one now in the Philippines because of its taste.
Pan fried pork and shrimp dumplings (Php 200)
Taiwan style beef Noodle soup (Php 200)
Pineapple fried rice with pork floss (Php 200)
Tofu with century egg (Php 80) – I love this dish with a sweet tasting sauce.
The Deep fried Stinky Tofu is, as the name says, stinky! It was my first to encounter this dish and i actually dislike it. But according to one of my table mates, eating so is an acquired taste. I was told that the smell of the Stinky Tofu serve here at Tien Ma is tamed down and lighter compare with the ones you’ll find in Binondo.
Tien Ma’s menu is not too complicated with food priced mostly at Php 200 with only one dish priced at Php 300.
And because of the success of the first branch, Tien Ma’s owners now have seen the need to open more branches. Tien Ma’s second outlet will launch within this year in Greenhills, San Juan.
Tien Ma’s is open daily from 10 am to 11pm at 168D. Tuazon Street corner N.S. Amoranto Avenue. Quezon City. Follow them on social media tienmastaiwanesecuise on facebook, @teinmas on twitter and @tienmastaiwanesecuisine on Instagram.
