Madaluyong City, Philippines: Here in the Philippines whenever you talk about Japanese cuisine; sushi, maki, ramen and tempura are the most popular dishes that would be put up in the conversation. Roaming around the city, you can actually notice that most of the dishes i’ve mention, there is an specific restaurant that caters to it. For example, when we talk about Sushi or Maki theres Akira, Ramen try Taisho Ramen, even Curry, try Izumi. But when we talk about tempura, I can’t really think of one.
Not until I’ve discovered Tenya’s authentic Japanese Tendons.
Brought by the Rack’s group, The Japanese franchise, Tenya, specializes in Tendon and Tempura. Tenya is a big hit in Japan, whenever you’ll say tempura or tendon, Japanese would definitely connect to Tenya. Luckily, we can now have a taste of it here in Manila.
How to go there?
Tempura Tendon Tenya is located at the 4th floor of SM Megamall Bldg. A. It’s very easy to locate just in the middle of the mall. To go there, coming from North Edsa, you have the option to ride a bus or MRT, go down at either Ortigas Station or Shaw Boulevard Station, walk towards SM Megamall.

What to order?
The menu aren’t that much, but still you got plenty to choose from. We started with some appetizers, the Isobe Cheese (Php 185) is a must try. It’s like a fusion of slightly sweet and salty taste.
Isobe Cheese (Cheddar cheese wrapped in roasted seaweed, tempura fried)
The Japanese style Potato Salad (Php 115) is also a something you should try on your visit. We ordered two sets for four person, I think I’ve eaten the whole cup and forgotten to share.
For the main course, I decided to try the All-Star Tempura Soba/Udon (Php 455), its a set that comes with black tiger prawn squid, salmon, kani stick, small kakiage, green beans and mushroom. It also comes with cold or hot noodles on the side.
Each table at Tenya also comes with a signature sauce called Dontare sauce. It goes well with tempura and Tendon. I super like it that I even mix it with my rice.
