If your not in the mood to try the water sports, there are still lots of things you can do on the island. Lets start with something that I know a lot of people miss doing.
Biking
Oh yes! Biking is a fun activity, but because of the advancement we are having, bikes popularity is becoming lesser comparing to its status in the 80s or the 90s. I miss biking, and I still remember my very first bike given by my Dad.
Here at Grande Island Resort, biking is really efficient, you can stroll around the greeneries and explore the island by renting a Bicycle for Php 150.00 per hour.
Swimming
Take a dip at the pool or enjoy the evening with friends doing a pool party. Hungry? don’t worry, while swimming you can order food at the Orchid restaurant which is located just in-front of the pool.
Eco-Tourism
Visit the other side of the island where a calmer water current can be found. It got nicer and clearer water with brown sand, perfect place for meditation and swimming in privacy.
Do trekking and discover some wild birds in the island. Climb up the mountain where you can found some hidden wonders and learn about the history of the place.
Grande Island Resort a Historical Site
Grande Island Resort is not just an island here in Subic Bay, Zambales, Grande Island played a significant role in the defense of the Philippines since the 16th century. Situated at the mouth of Subic Bay, it divides the entrance in half. Its fine harbor enticed the Spanish government to develop Olongapo in 1885 and fortify Grande Island as a key defense in Manila.
The military reservation on Grande Island was given the name Fort Wint in honor of Brigadier General Theodore J. Wint, U.S. Army. Guns were mounted in the batteries. The remains of these batteries and some of their cannons can be seen on Grande Island to this day.
Grande Island or formerly Fort Wint used to be a restricted area among locals. Years later, realizing its potential as an island resort, the Americans developed it to be a recereational place that caters the servicemen and their families during their stay in Subic Bay. Today Grande Island, was transformed into a world-class tropical island resort thru Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Will I Recommend?
There are just a lot of things you can do in this Island, hence one of the major bread n’ butter comes from big groups who do team building in this place.
You can also be sporty by renting the facilities they have. Play Volleyball, Soccer ball, basketball, badminton, Billiard or sing your heart out under the moonlight with their Videoke. Or if you’re into those intimate chat with friends, request for a Bon fire Set up with s’mores (good for 10 pax) for Php 3,500.00.
If you love to do water sports and doesn’t want to be far from Manila, this could be the best place to be. A day tour could also be enough to try all the facilities. You can also avail different packages Grande Island Resort is offering to get big discounts.
I’m looking forward for the possibility of improving the place even more, there are still lots of things they can do with the island, maybe an additional restaurant near the bay or maybe additional waster sports like wind surfing.
