I had fun with the kids at La Verdad Christian College. These are not literally kids but Mass-Com college students in different levels. I somehow look like their proffesor and felt that I’m really getting old mingling with them.
I was invited over by the college administration to give a talk about “Public Speaking and Hosting”. I was hesitant at first but after thinking it over I accepted the invitation for 4 main reasons.
- Sharing is giving! Its always nice to share to other people the things that you’ve learned in life and inspire others even in a small way for them to achieve what they are aiming in life.
- It’s my first, so it’s a big challenge for me as well
- It’s a good addition to my credentials
- I can probably measure what I know about the craft.
I was asked to deliver a very broad topic, focusing on Public Speaking and Hosting. I also did felt discourage at first that I might not be good enough or could deliver the talk badly but who knows, we can really never know unless we try, right?
Whats crucial about here is not actually the actual talk but the preparation and research you should do before the talk. Delivering something new to their table should be upfront and because they are in different levels, topics that you could use should apply and essentially useful for all of them.
I came at the venue 15 mins before the schedule. I was surprise that the whole stadium was in full house, around 450-650 students were present. That was a lot and could be hard to handle. Pero syempre, I can’t really complain, I should show confidence in every act that I would do once I step in the stadium.
Funny that I felt a litlle jitters at the start, thank you for the Ice Breakers that i’ve prepared. Everybody’s loosen up.
My talk covers Public Speaking and Hosting in general, from definition, to tips, to qualifications, requirements and even on how you could earn and making it a career.
It was fun and exciting! I was given 2-hours of talk-time and I thought that would be too much, but unexpectdly my time was extended to 15 more minutes just to accomodate few questions from the students.
Thank you very much to the faculty and students of La Verdad Christian College. I hope that you have learned something from what I have discuss. Pwede na ba ko mag teacher? hahaha!
