Freeway continuously amazed patrons and nationalistic Filipinos by always putting in and uplifting the Filipino heritage. Not just by giving us a new line and authentic quality clothes but also by incorporating artist that gives colour to the Filipino culture.
A few weeks ago, Freeway Celebrates it’s 11th tribute by featuring the National Artist for Literature, Mr. Bienvenido Lumbera, one of our few remaining living treasured National Artists.
Bienvenido Lumbera is a poet, critic and dramatist from the Philippines who has been a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communications. He also won numerous literary awards, including the National Book Awards from the National Book Foundation, and the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards.
Lumbera has been known to establish leadership among Filipino writers and critics by co-founding cultural organizations such as the Philippine Comparative Literature Association (1969); Pamana ng Panitikan ng Pilipinas (1970); Kalipunan para sa mga Literatura ng Pilipinas (1975); Philippine Studies Association of the Philippines (1984) and Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (1976).
The much-awaited Freeway Fall Collection for 2014 showcases a wide array of tops and dresses in mosaic style prints matching Lumbera’s literary beauty.
The festive celebration was held last May 20, at The Row in Glorietta 1 hosted by Tessa Prieto Valdes who wears a vibrant Freeway Fall Collection as well. The guest of the event were also treated with a lovely song number performed by an up-and-coming artist, Lirah Bermudez who rendered a couple of Carpenter songs- a personal request of Lumbera’s family. The award winning rapper Gloc-9 also performed Tatay Bien’s favorite rap songs to the huge crowd of fans gathering in the hallways.
