Rep. Imelda Marcos at Women at the Top 2012

MANILA, Philippines – Former First Lady and 2nd District Ilocos Norte Representative will join other prominent women on February 23-24, 2012 for the Manila leg of Women at the Top 2012. She is expected to attend and give a keynote speech for the said conference. Her keynote speech will tackle the topic “Millennium Development Goals in the Philippines,” borne out of the United Nations’ Millennium Summit in September 2000. To help track progress in the attainment of the 8 goals and 18 targets of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) over the period 1990 to 2015, experts from the United Nations Secretariat and International Monetary Fund (IMF), Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Bank identified and selected a set of time-bound and measurable indicators.

Imelda R. Marcos (born Imelda Remedios Visitasion Romualdez on July 2, 1929) is a Filipina politician and widow of 10th Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos

She is expected to attend and give a keynote speech for the said conference. Known as one of the most charismatic faces and determined women in the Philippines, Hon. Imelda Romualdez-Marcos is truly the symbol of elegance, charity and dedication. She initiated social programs such as the Green Revolution, a program that encouraged

Filipinos to plant vegetables and fruits in their gardens, and a national family-planning program to reduce the country’s population growth. On the other hand, she pioneered efforts to build institutions such as Cultural Center of the Philippines, Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, Kidney Institute of the Philippines, Nayong Pilipino; Philippine International Convention Center, Folk Arts Theater, Coconut Palace, and the Manila Film Center, built in 1982 to host the international film festival.

Aside from the Former First Lady, other speakers include Dr. Vicki Belo, Regina Paz Lopez of ABS-CBN Foundation, Marga Deona of Microsoft, Former MTV VJ Donita Rose, Hon. Lucy Torres-Gomez, Washington D.C.-based political communications strategist Rina Shah and other prominent personalities.

The conference will be composed of some of the world’s top business women, women leaders, entrepreneurs, and women who accomplished the fields of information technology, beauty, fashion, music, the arts, sport, science and government.
