One of the things that I regret when I visited Taipei, Taiwan was to not take the opportunity to taste the different milk tea brands available in the city. Being known as to were the said drink originated, my expectation on how Taiwan’s Milk Tea taste is a bit high. Though I can say that I did able to taste a few but I guess I weren’t really able to have those that people says the best.
Luckily, someone have made it more reachable to Filipinos. Entrepreneur Samantha Yap of Making Fine Beverages Corp. was then first intrigue with the long lines the brand Tiger Sugar made in Hong Kong. And knowing how Filipinos reciprocate to anything milk tea, she realizes that that long line would likely happen as well in Manila.

Recently, Tiger Sugar Milk Tea, which is said to offer one of the best tasting brown sugar milk tea in Taiwan opened their very first Philippine store in Bonifacio High Street, BGC (Located in front of Fully Booked). I was able to attend the grand launch and privilege to be one of the few people to have tasted this great boba drink.

I do not usually believe in fads, but when I was able to taste the famous Brown Sugar Boba Milk with Cream Mouse, I already understand why such milk tea shop became a craze in Hong Kong, and of course in Taiwan. Though, there are no options to adjust the sugar level, I find the taste of this drink quite right for my palette; not too sweet and not too bitter.
Looking at the cup of milk tea, it actually resembles our local Taho drink, this is due to the thick brown-sugar syrup they’ve used in the drink. But that isn’t just the secret for they also replace the milk component to fresh cream that made the drink more rich and creamy.
Tiger Sugar is originally from Taichung, Taiwan and got its name from the tiger-like brown sugar -syrup stripes on the drinks. Tiger Sugar Milk Tea prices starts at P80 to P120 – not bad right?
