Wondering what happened to the 80’s Filipino actor Romnick Sarmenta? Well his now inside the kitchen along with his wife Harlene Bautista serving delicious Filipino meals for the residents of Quezon City.

Owned by the lovely couple Romnick Sarmenta and Harlene Bautista, SALU Restaurant is a full Filipino restaurant serving authentic treats from different parts of the Philippines situated a few meters away from Tomas Morato St. in Quezon City.
SALU in short means Sinag, Alab, Lahi, Uganyan, which are Filipino words considered very patriotic. It is also rooted from the word ‘Salo-Salu’ which is ‘feast’ in English.
It’s my first time visiting the place and I didn’t actually realize that a certain restaurant exist in this area. SALU got this rustic vibe that you could already see outside. I actually felt that it was an old house reconstructed to a homey restaurant. Entering the vicinity will give you a bit of nationalistic vibe with images of Romnick and Harlene’s travel featuring different delicacies and dishes in different parts of the Philippines.
The first hall got this Spanish-like feel, while the hall where the event was held got this woody-rustic ambiance. I think the later was really allocated for events and huge gatherings.
I got a chance to have a chitchat with Romnick Sarmenta right after the event and I was able to learn that what they really wanted to achieve is to become an access for Manilenos for us to be able to taste the other dishes and delicacies from the different parts of the Philippines. As Romnick says it, it’s not just about Adobo, or Sinigang or Pakbet, there are just a lot of food out there our provinces can offer.
And just like what he said, we were able to taste a few like the famous Beef Kulma of Mindanao, when we visited SALU on it’s first year celebration.
I was actually fanning for a moment, for I’ve been looking up on this guy since I was a kid. My mom and other classmates actually sometimes compare me to Romnick especially how my hair looks like before. Remember when people usually compare you to a celebrity; I was usually associated to Romnick before! Haha!
And celebrating SALU’s first year, the owners decided to invite bloggers and influencers to enjoy an afternoon at the restaurant. And aside from the overflowing food, the owners also launch the #SarapMabuhay campaign.
The campaign would still highlight the adventures of the owners as they search for the next ultimate plates to bring back home to Salu, to be made available for all who wants to discover more. The Pilipinas Platter, their version of a group feast, gives customers an opportunity to taste all the specialties in different part of the Philippines. All the cuisines area creatively plated on a special cared Pilipinas wooden plate.
Luto ni Nanay gives moms a chance to cook with the talented chefs of Salu as they learn to prepare one of a kind dishes for the family. I actually like this concept specially if your mom wanted to showcase her cooking talent in the bunch.
Now, you wouldn’t need to travel far to have a taste of your favorite provincial delicacies, the right place is just here in QC. But by the way, if your looking for some exotic dish adventure, SALU isn’t the right place, for they thought that serving exotic dish in the Resto could be a bit of a problem when it comes to supply and demand.
