SM NORTH EDSA, Quezon City, Philippines: Taisho Ramen, is one of the newest Ramen house that just opened a few days ago (September 5, 2013) It was a small restaurant with a seating capacity of just about 50. Located at the SM North EDSA The Block, their location has been very accessible specially for passerby who are craving for something new and adventurous for the tummy.
Before the opening of the restaurant, the owners, specially Ms. Myra Isono, has been very generous to invite a few bloggers to have that initial experience and give them an honest review about the food.
Hearing about the name of the restaurant I already expected to taste delicious ramen. Their menu is actually not yet complete having some in the list still not available for orders but nevertheless, its a good thing that all the Ramen choices are already available for tasting.
Ramen is a very popular dish in japan, the quick cooking noodles is typically served in a broth with meat and vegetables. And this particular ramen house was generally brought here in Manila by Ms. Myrra and some japanese friends.
According to their story, TAISHO RAMEN & TEPPANYAKI HOUSE started with a concept from a group of friends whose been into the Restaurant business which originally started in Kurume, Fukuoka, Japan.
The group of friends came up with the idea of putting up their own Ramen House in the Philippines aiming to serve the perfect balanced taste of Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen in which they meticulously gathered and studied the ingredients & procedures.
Let it be known that their noodles are specially made only for Taisho, ensuring their client the best and clean fresh noodles genuine Tonkotsu soup base.
So here goes what we have for our dinner, Taisho Ramen House is initially serving 3 types of ramen, and because I were dining initially with 2 more bloggers we decided to pick one type of ramen for each, Edel picked the Miso Ramen (Php 235) while Alexis Mendoza picked the Hakata Tonkatsu Ramen (Php 195) and because I love spicy food I picked, Karamen Tonkatsu Noodles and Vegetables (Php 235) (in spicy, medium spicy, deadly spicy)
Ramen is usually serve with red ginger which can add taste to your ramen, this is called Benishoga in Japan, There is also some fresh garlic or Niniku in Japanese, Chilli powder and chilli oil for people who are into a more spicy adventure.
I personally love the broth of the Karamen, and the noodles is really perfectly cook with a little chewy texture. Thou I was actually telling the owner that it would satisfy me more if the ramen I chose has eggs and more vegetables, but I was told that actually client have that option to have an additional toppings for the ramen, depending on how you wanted it to be.
Amongst the three ramen we tasted, for me the Miso Ramen was the most tasteful. According to my fellow bloggers my pick of ramen was a bit too spicy for them making them a bit harder to describe how it taste.
Aside from ramen, we were also serve some Japanese Fried Rice or Chahan. Pork Tepanyaki (grilled pork) with miso paste sesame seed, Gyoza and Chicken wings.
The chicken we all so love! It has this sweetness and a little bit of saltiness which makes the dish “di nakaksawa” it was actually their house specialty called the Tebasaki (3 wings for 150 Pesos). I was suggesting to them to come out with a new version of it with a spicy kick! I guess lots of pinoy who like spicy food will enjoy it.
All in all, the restaurant has this cosy feel with food that is really comparable to high-end restaurant. And with the taste, it was truly great considering the authencity of their menu adding up was the quality of having a Japanese Chef who oversees their kitchen operation making customers feels like Japan has landed again to Manila.
By the way, Taisho means “Master“, so we could say, Manila look out for this one restaurant because this might be the future master of ramen in the Philippines. More menu will be available really soon so watch out for it. Special thanks to Ms. Myra and to SM personnel who dined with us specially to Frank and Aj!
