Manila Food Bloggers readied their hungry stomach last thursday for a grand foodie gathering hosted by Mao Jia Hunan Cuisine.  Mr. Freddie, owns the resto, which surprisingly was a friend of Azrael who invited everyone for that night. Your’s truly with friend, Sheng, came a bit late from the said call time (which is 6pm), we were the last who came, but nevertheless, I could say we are still on time for the eating part, which is the most important part of gathering! (I guess, lol!)

Mao Jia is a lay-back Chinese concept restaurant which serves the famous Hunan Cuisine originated from one of the eight regional cuisines of China. As opposed to the better-known Sichuan cuisine, it is known for its hot spicy flavor, fresh aroma and deep color because of the liberal use of chili peppers, shallots and garlic.

Mao Jia is strategically located at Ronac Art Center

The history of the cooking skills employed in the Hunan cuisine date back many centuries. As early as the Western Han Dynasty, 2,100 years ago, the cooking skills of Hunan cuisine reached a high standard. During the course of its history, Hunan cuisine assimilated a variety of cuisine styles, and then developed its own style.

Sour and Spicy Shredded Potato (Php 120)

I personally love the Sour and Spicy Shredded Potato, which is one of the spiciest dish serve in our table, it’s like eating a semi fried french fries, with a spicy kick at taste! It really goes well with a cup of rice, making me even eat Sumi’s left over rice bowl! Aside from the potato, the Sour and Spicy cabbage (Php 120) has aslo caught my attention, it may seem so simple by presentation, but wait till you taste this teriyaki or barbecue like putted in this cabbage dish. Other dishes serve are the Bean Curd with Kuchay (Php 160), Spicy Fried Chicken (Php 220), Pepper Sausage With Leeks which is a new dish not yet available in the menu, Spare Ribs (Php 380) and the Wintermelon Spareribs Soup (Php 200) which is somehow looks like a Sayote and tasted like Tinola.
